Broadcast-quality aerial filming for television, film, corporate video, construction, industry, property, renewable energy and major infrastructure projects.
Sky Filming provides professional drone filming for production companies, broadcasters, creative agencies, construction contractors, engineers, property professionals, public bodies and businesses throughout the UK.
Established in York in 2010, we are one of the UK’s longest-running specialist drone filming companies. Our footage has been used in television programmes, documentaries, news reports, commercial productions, corporate films, construction updates, engineering presentations and online campaigns.
We can join an existing film crew as a dedicated drone unit, work directly from your shot list or manage the complete production from initial planning through to filming, editing and final delivery.
Tell us where you need to film, what you want to show and when the footage is required. We will assess the location, explain what is possible and provide a clear quotation.

Our latest showreel includes examples of commercial, industrial, construction, property and television filming carried out across Yorkshire and the wider UK and Europe.
Experienced Aerial Filming, Not Just Drone Flying
Owning a drone does not automatically produce good aerial footage.
Effective drone filming requires an understanding of camera movement, composition, changing light, continuity, subject movement and how each aerial sequence will fit into the finished production.
We work with directors, producers, camera operators, marketing teams, site managers and private clients to plan shots that serve a clear purpose. That might mean revealing the scale of an industrial site, following a moving vehicle, establishing a television location, documenting construction progress or creating a smooth opening sequence for a promotional film.
We can work to detailed instructions or suggest suitable shots when the client knows what needs to be communicated but is unsure how best to capture it.
Drone Filming Services
Television, Documentary and Film Production
We provide aerial establishing shots, location footage, landscape sequences, building reveals, presenter shots, tracking sequences and general views for television, documentary and film productions.
We are accustomed to working as part of a larger crew, following call sheets, coordinating with production staff and responding to changing schedules, weather and editorial requirements.
Previous work has included BBC documentaries, BBC factual programming, ITV features, live television demonstrations and aerial news footage for Sky News.
Corporate and Promotional Video
Drone footage can immediately communicate the size, location and character of a business, property or operation.
We film company premises, manufacturing facilities, offices, vehicle fleets, warehouses, visitor attractions, hotels, estates and working environments for corporate films, websites, presentations, social media and advertising campaigns.
Aerial footage can be supplied to your existing editor or combined with professional ground filming, interviews, sound recording, graphics, captions and music to create a complete finished video.
Construction and Infrastructure
Sky Filming has extensive experience working on active construction sites and major infrastructure projects.
Our filming can document:
- Construction progress and project milestones
- Bridge, road and railway engineering
- Crane lifts and major installations
- Demolition and redevelopment
- Completed buildings and handovers
- Site logistics and working methods
- Health, safety and training procedures
- Stakeholder and investor updates
- Marketing and tender presentations
We understand that construction filming often involves restricted working areas, inductions, personal protective equipment, method statements, risk assessments and coordination with site management.
One-off filming and regular weekly or monthly visits are available.
Industrial, Manufacturing and Logistics Filming
Industrial locations often present greater operational challenges than ordinary property filming. They may contain moving machinery, vehicles, hazardous areas, restricted access, radio interference or site-specific safety procedures.
We have filmed factories, power facilities, processing plants, warehouses, transport yards, waste and water treatment operations, manufacturing sites and other complex working environments.
Our role is not simply to arrive and fly. We work with the client to understand the site, identify suitable operating areas and capture the required footage without interfering with normal operations.
Property, Hotels, Estates and Visitor Destinations
Aerial filming can show features that are difficult to communicate from ground level, including the size of a property, surrounding landscape, access routes, gardens, woodland, nearby facilities and the relationship between different buildings.
We provide drone filming for:
- Commercial and residential developments
- Hotels and holiday accommodation
- Country houses and estates
- Land and development opportunities
- Business parks and industrial property
- Schools, colleges and universities
- Historic buildings and heritage locations
- Tourism and visitor attractions
Where appropriate, drone video can be combined with interior filming, ground-level exterior footage and photography.
Renewable Energy and Environmental Projects
We film solar farms, wind energy locations, biomass facilities, environmental projects, waterways, agricultural land and proposed development sites.
Drone footage can be used to provide a clear overview of large areas for planning discussions, feasibility presentations, stakeholder communications, investor reports and promotional productions.
We also undertake repeat visits to document projects as they develop.
Indoor and Low-Level Drone Filming
Some buildings and industrial spaces are best shown using a small drone flying indoors or at low level.
Indoor drone filming can be effective in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, exhibition spaces and other large buildings where a conventional camera cannot easily show the scale or layout of the interior.
Every indoor flight is assessed individually, taking account of available space, people, machinery, lighting, air movement and possible signal interference.
News and Time-Sensitive Filming
Sky Filming has supplied rapidly captured aerial footage for national news coverage and other time-sensitive productions.
Short-notice work may be possible where the location, airspace, weather and safety requirements allow. Contact us as early as possible with the location and intended use so that feasibility can be checked.
A Dedicated Drone Unit for Your Production
Production companies and agencies can book Sky Filming solely for the aerial element of a larger project.
We can:
- Work from a director’s treatment, storyboard or shot list
- Attend production meetings and location recces

- Coordinate flight activity with the wider production schedule

We understand that the aerial footage must match the visual style, technical specifications and editorial requirements of the wider production.

Safe, Legal and Properly Planned Drone Operations
Commercial drone filming should be planned around the location and the risks of the proposed flight—not simply around the shot the client would like to obtain.
Sky Filming holds a current CAA Operational Authorisation and appropriate commercial drone insurance, including up to £10 million aviation liability cover.
Before filming, we can examine:
- Controlled and restricted airspace
- Nearby airports, heliports and aircraft activity
- Residential, commercial and industrial surroundings
- Roads, railways and public access
- Buildings, trees, cranes and other obstacles
- People who are not involved in the operation
- Site rules and landowner requirements
- Suitable take-off, landing and emergency areas
- Weather and visibility
- Additional permissions or coordination that may be required
Risk assessments, method statements and other supporting documentation can be provided when required by a production company, principal contractor or site operator.
Flights in towns, cities, industrial areas and other complicated locations may be possible, but every project must be assessed individually. Where a requested shot cannot be completed safely or legally, we will explain the issue and look for a practical alternative.

Drone Filming Questions
How much does professional drone filming cost?
The cost depends on the location, amount of planning, time on site, travel, technical requirements and whether you require raw footage or a completed video. Send us the location and a brief description of the project for an accurate quotation.
Can you film in a town or city?
Potentially, yes. Urban filming depends on the exact location, surrounding people, airspace, available operating areas and the type of aircraft required. We will assess the proposed site before confirming the flight.
Can you film close to an airport?
Some flights near airports are possible with the appropriate planning and permission. The precise location, airport restrictions, altitude and proposed operation must be checked in advance.
Can you film over a crowd?
Ordinary commercial drone permissions do not allow unrestricted flight over crowds. Public events and busy locations require careful assessment, suitable separation and sometimes additional authorisation. Contact us before making assumptions about what can be flown.
Can you work with our existing production company?
Yes. We regularly provide the specialist drone filming element while another company manages the main production and edit.
Do you supply raw footage?
Yes. Original footage can be supplied in an agreed format for your editor. We can also colour-correct and edit the aerial footage or produce the entire video.
What happens if the weather is unsuitable?
Strong wind, rain, poor visibility and some forms of extreme weather can prevent safe filming. For weather-sensitive projects, we can discuss contingency dates or make a final decision closer to the filming day.
Can you undertake regular filming?
Yes. Regular contracts are available for construction progress, infrastructure, property development, renewable energy, industrial projects and other long-term work.
